As you may be aware Aberdeenshire Council is planning to introduce new 20mph zones across the whole of Aberdeenshire.
As part of this process a public consultation has begun.
The consultation seems to be based on the council’s area committee’s and the first communication we have received is for the Marr area (so for this CC the area north of the Ton Burn, including Monymusk).
This is reproduced below, Garioch have still to send us their email.
Will post more details as we get them.
The Aberdeenshire Council (Marr) (Speed Limits Revocation) Order 2025 and The Aberdeenshire Council (Marr) (Speed limits) Order 2025
In accordance with The Local Authorities’ Traffic Orders (Procedure) (Scotland) Regulations 1999, Aberdeenshire Council are required to consult relevant organisations prior to making the above order.
The Aberdeenshire Council (Marr) (Speed Limits Revocation) Order would revoke the existing speed limits within the Marr area of Aberdeenshire Council.
This would then be replaced by the Aberdeenshire Council (Marr) (Speed Limits) Order which would include the proposed mandatory 20mph speed limits which are being introduced as part of the Scottish Governments National Strategy for 20mph, with the aim that “all appropriate roads in built up areas will have a safer speed of 20mph by 2025.”
Appendix 1 – attached – lists all the existing speed limit orders that are to be revoked
Appendix 2 – attached – includes plans indicating the proposed new 20mph, 30mph, 40mph and 50mph speed limits, the proposed 40mph and 50mph limits are identical to those currently in place however a large number of roads which presently are restricted to 30mph are now proposed to have new reduced limits of 20mph
Should you wish to make any comments please return these no later than the 19th of May 2025.
